TThe Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the town of Uttarkashi in the Indian state of Uttarakhand. The temple is one of the oldest and most sacred temples in Uttarkashi, and is said to have been built by Sage Parshuram. The present temple was built in 1857 by the queen of Tehri, Smt. Khaneti Devi.The temple is built in the traditional Himalayan temple architecture style, and is made of white marble. The main deity of the temple is a lingam (a phallic symbol of Shiva), which is housed in a silver altar. The temple also has shrines dedicated to other Hindu deities, such as Parvati, Ganesha, and Vishnu.
The day starts with an early morning drive from Haridwar to Uttarkashi, which is known as the footstep to trekking towards Gangotri.
